Their are five functions and to memorize them we have the basic method: P O S D C
- P(Planning): is the function of determining what is to be done and who is to do it. This involves setting objectives and targets and formulating an action plan to achieve them effectively and efficiently.
- O(Organizing): is the function of assigning duties, grouping tasks, establishing reporting relationships and allocating resources required to carry out a specific plan. It determines what activities and resources are required. It decides who will do to a particular task, where it will be done, and when it will be done.
- S(Staffing): simply means finding the right people for right job. It involves activities such as recruitment, selection, placement and training of personnel. Staffing is also known as human resource function.
- D(Directing): is telling people what to do and seeing that they do it to the best of their ability. It involves leading, influencing and motivating employees to perform the tasks assigned to them.
- C(Controlling): is the function of monitoring organisational performance towards the attainment of organisational performance goals. It involves establishing standards of performance, measuring actual performance, taking it with standards and taking corrective action where any significant deviation is found.
